alonso joins mercedes

Hey..

Thanks to all for a very lively discussion on the previous post. Iam sorry for my lack of responses up there, but will definitely follow your comments with a continuation post shortly.

Meanwhile Iam here just to update the recent events in the best of motorsport - Formula One. World Champion Fernando Alonso is moving to Vodafone McLaren Mercedez racing from the 2007 season. This means the ouster of either Juan Pablo Montoya or Kimi Raikkonen from the Mercedes team at the end of 2006. The answer as of now is apparent that Raikkonen would most likely move over to Ferrari-Marlboro team, replacing the all time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Alonso's move will definitely put Renault to a backseat, this only adding to their woe of tyre king Michelin deciding to withdraw out of Formula One at the end of 2006 season. With the Concorde agreement coming to a close we are in for very interesting times ! This is the current prediction of the 2007 lineup of the top teams.

Renault - Giancarlo Fisichella & Heiki Kovalainen
Ferrari-Marlboro - Kimi Raikkonen & Felippe Massa
Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes - Fernando Alonso & Juan Pablo Montoya

This year Iam still confused between cheering for McLaren & Renault. In any case I will continue to cheer for Michelin.

Ciao..

hmm, you are assuming that Schumi will retire.

Schumi's personal sponsor is Vodafone - yeah, and Vodafone will be the "title" sponsor of McLaren Merc from 2007. There are "rumours" that Schumi is leaving Ferrari @ the end of the ear.

One thing that is clear to me is, Kimi is out of McLaren. The only fellows who could get him are Ferrari, Toyota and may be Red Bull. There might be a coup in this too!

Again, I feel Alonso is the right man for Ferrari (yeah, more than Kimi).

I don't know what's going to happen. Will Schumi retire? That's the question we need answer for! I don't think he will. He doesn't need to till he knows he is beaten - as of now he isn't surpassed by anyone in overall racing(If he wasn't there in Ferrari, they'd hv finished 5th or 6th in the Constructor's championship...he was a master class, except one or two races, in a car/tyre package that was nothing more than sxxx. Dins-

Michelin has nothing left to prove in F1. They do an amazing job everywhere anyways. Lets see how Narain fares with Williams. The first 3 days in Jerez has been real good.

And there is no way we can see Kimi and Fernando race as teammates. I guess Schumi will leave Ferrari paving the way for Kimi's entry.

Guys, The max Narain can hope for is test drive seat. And to be correct, he rocked only on the first day (if u consider the shunt he had, it's not a "rocking" performance). There is no race drive on the offing (may be 3rd car).

Also, Narain does not deserve a race drive in Williams considering his 2004 performance. Lets be honest about it.

I wish Schumi going to Williams/RedBull and do a Ferrari out of them. Ferrari without Schumi/Rory Byrne/Ross Brawn will go back to where they were 15 years ago...yeah, even if they have Kimi.

So, it looks like Alonso and Montoya. A cracking pair for McLaren. Both are capable, but Alonso is much more intelligent. That should show up in the results.

On the other hand, what if Schumi doesn't leave Ferrari but Massa does! And Schumi with Kimi - may be a repeat of Senna and Prost with McLaren a decade ago..But Ferrari never treads that path. Lets see.

About Narain:

I saw a comment made by Antony Davidson (BAR) about Jordans in 2004-05 season. Here it goes...

"During the early half of the season, one of the cars was quick but all over the place and the other car was very tidy but too slow to believe it is run by a F1 driver. During the second half of the season, one car was quickish and all over the place (same as before) and the other car was very tidy but equally, if not more, quick!"

[Source: F1 Racing Mag]

You can easily make out which is Tiago and which is Narain.

This is how a driver (from the track while driving behind Jordans) saw it. And the team bosses know more, they can see the telemetry over a race distance (remember, qualifying is one thing, racing is another - nobody can match Jarno in qualifying, but Jarno isn't one of the "top" notch drivers because of his racing ability). Narain's race craft let him down. Pbly, some more experience will help. But he is a late bloomer in F1 standards - unfortunately.

Siva,

Take it easy and cheer for Red... Looks like its really hotting up the F1 arena...
I personally felt that Schumi should have retired when he won the champs in 2004. Not sure whats running in his mind right now..

Its always better to retire with a sense of achievement rather than with a sense of fatigue.

you would continue to cheer for michelin ???

well, thats a first fan i heard of who cheers for a tyre !!! ....not the driver, not the engine, not the constructor but...the tyre !!!

That's the point which FIA doesn't like. Tyre differences creating a huge difference in the capability of a team agains others. The right solution would be to bring back slicks (rather than making it a one tyre company for all). 2008 will see the return on slicks, unfortunately they seem to like "one tyre company for all" from 2007 itself.
